Yesterday we welcomed Kent’s High Sheriff, Dr Gill Fargher, to Medway Maritime Hospital, where she met with our two domestic violence advisors who are located within the hospital. For many, a hospital setting can be one of the few times where they can get away from their abuser and reach out for help. Our two members of staff provide much needed support and advice for both staff and patients in a safe space.

As a former GP, Gill was pleased to hear about Oasis and the NHS working in partnership and pledged to add her support to raising the profile of Oasis staff within Medway Maritime Hospital, so that anyone needing help to flee an abusive relationship can get the help they need. She said of her visit, ‘I spent an invaluable couple of hours with Oasis staff at the hospital and hope to be able to offer some useful connections. The work that you are all doing in very difficult circumstances is amazing and I thank and commend you all.’

Oasis also has a domestic abuse advisor within Margate’s QEQM Hospital. Click here to find out more, or access support.
